Under the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union program digital health, I joined the discussion on the Integration of eHealth Innovation within healthcare Systems.
We discussed how to improve healthcare quality and reduce inequalities in access through innovation and digital transformation. The different panelists recognized it, healthcare has particular challenges that explain lagging behind other industries. Moreover, at the European level, the fragmentation of national and sub-national health systems and the data protectionist can restrain future developments. Initiatives like EIT Health are essential to accelerate health systems transformation across Europe.
The discussion on the Integration of eHealth Innovation panel was chaired by Jan Philipp Beck and relied on extraordinary insights from Kurt Holler, Jorge Trinkwalter, and Tamara Hussong Miracle.

The eHealthsummit.pt
The eHealthsummit promotes innovation and digital transformation in health, being the most prominent digital health event in Portugal. Previous editions have contributed to leveraging digital health at the country level and on an international scale. In 2021, this theme acquires particular relevance and more significant meaning for all citizens.
The eHealthsummit.pt thus assumes itself as the primary initiative of the PPUE in the field of digital health.

EIT Health
EIT Health was established in 2015, as a 'knowledge and innovation community' (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The EIT is made up of various KICs that each focus on a different sector, or area, of innovation – in our case, that is health and aging. The idea behind the EIT KICs is that innovation flourishes best when the right people are brought together to share expertise. The so-called 'knowledge triangle', is the principle that when experts from business, research, and education work together as one, an optimal environment for innovation is created.
